mindful eating

Sometimes our relationship with food can become strained. However it’s important to remember that it’s not typically food that is the problem, but our relationship with it. When appreciated and used appropriately, food is a primary source of our health, wellness and happiness. All too often we’re eating for other reasons or being inattentive during eating.

Action: By practicing mindful eating you can build a better healthier relationship with food. Listen to what your body really needs as you shop. Be a connoisseur, enjoying quality rather than quantity. When you can, enjoy preparing the food beforehand. Plate it up and remove any avoidable distractions so that you can fully engage in the meal. As you eat, do so slowly, and taste every bite. Allow space to listen to your body so when you start to feel full, you stop, pushing the plate away as a signal that the meal is finished. If there’s food left on the place you can save it for another time or throw it away. While it’s good not to waste food, the food is equally wasted whether you throw it in the bin or use your body as a bin. By respecting your body it works with you for greater health.
