managing pain

Pain, like the ringing of a fire alarm, exists as signal that change is needed. Sometimes that change is external- i.e. moving our hand away from a hot surface, other times internal- i.e. taking care of our health and wellness. On other occasions the fire alarm of pain may be ringing because of a false alarm, or because there was an issue but it is no longer there, and may need some assistance in being silenced.

Action: The first step is always to consult with healthcare specialists to see if external or internal change is needed and, if so, what steps need to be taken. Once this is addressed and you have been advised that pain management is appropriate the goal is to communicate to your body that it is now safe to let go of those feelings, to turn the fire alarm down or off. This can be done by visualising a colourful healing energy and bringing it to the part(s) of your body effected and letting it sooth and comfort you, relaxing your body and your breathing. You are playing a leadership role and communicating to your system that it is now safe to let go of pain and to embrace feelings of ease and wellness.
