The body’s adrenaline system is designed to get us out of difficulty by giving us a boost of adrenaline- also known as the fight or flight response. If we have lots of adrenaline, but can release it by running or fighting to protect ourselves, then it balances out. However this system can be activated not just by real immediate physical danger, but also by watching horror films as well as thinking unpleasant thoughts.
Action: By shifting your attention to the present moment, rather than the perceived difficulty, it is possible to help your system recalibrate. Physical activity to release excess energy can also be helpful. Overall, changing the underlying beliefs that lead to these assessments is valuable.
