activity for its own sake

Sometimes when we think about being active it seems pointless: we want to be in shape, but five minutes is hardly going to do it, therefore we feel we need an hour or more and that seems to require more commitment than we have in that moment. This approach is based on the assumption that the main or only reason for being active is because of the end result. This need not be the case.

Action: Activity is literally what the body is built for. By recognising that fitness is just a natural and positive by-product of movement it’s possible to gain a sense of satisfaction from each moment of activity. This allows you to enjoy 5 minutes here, 30 seconds there. A more substantial training programme may also be needed but less effort will be needed as all those small bits really add up and you will be more likely to do more when you’re already feeling good about being active.
