Internal conflict rarely occurs because we are trying to choose between what feels like a bad option and a good one. Instead, conflict normally occurs when we are faced with what seem to be multiple good choices. They may not actually be good choices—we may be in error or perhaps our beliefs are out of date and things have changed. However if something feels like the right path, we may be tempted to take it either way. And when presented with what feel like multiple right paths, we can end up feeling stuck.
Action: Take a moment to appreciate the different parts of you that are drawn to take different paths. While these can vary—two common poles you will typically notice are the desire for safety, and the desire for freedom or growth. Notice how both of these are valid concerns—however they can seem like self-sabotage from the perspective of the other. Most importantly, notice that their overall purpose is the same—to maintain or improve your wellness. As you recognise this, start to explore ways to achieve both safety and freedom, which ultimately compliment each other.
