you are not your thoughts

You are not your thoughts. We would never say that a person who watches television is the programme or station that they are tuned to: we distinguish between them and what they are watching because it’s possible for the content to change but for them to remain: they are therefore separate and not dependent on it.

Action: You can practice turning off the television / interrupting thinking. You can also change the channel / be absorbed in thinking thoughts you want rather than those you don’t. Even if there are persistent thoughts / there are infomercials on television trying to sell you something you don’t want to buy and you can’t find the remote you are still capable of being aware of that content, recognising the space between you and it, and not acting.
