In the use of hypnotherapy and deep visualisation exercises this is either done through elimination (i.e. closing eyes to shut out visuals, using a quiet environment, laying back to limit physical feedback etc) or through reframing and deliberately incorporating any additional content into the construct (the sound of rain as part of a scene, city sounds as part of a cityscape etc) so that it can be included as a component of the sense-making [‘The Matrix’ (1999) Warner Bros.].
